I know like it seems like we are skipping a bit here, but we couldn't remember if/what we decided for JANUARY'S book club. Please respond to the following POLL before December 1! (list book suggestions, etc in the COMMENTS section)
Should we do a bring-a-friend January book club? If so, what are your ideas? If not, what book do you suggest?
I voted "yes" and (to get the ball rolling) - my suggestion is to read two apocalyptic novels and it would be fun to discuss the authors' different takes (what they chose to focus on) - preferably one more classic and one more modern example (perhaps "Fahrenheit 451" or "Brave New World" and "The Road?")
ReplyDeleteI voted yes twice..oops! I was thinking that after this next book we might want to get out of the non-ficton and memoir genre for a bit. I don't have any specific recommendations but I'd like to read a fun fiction novel that will be enjoyable for both us gals and the guys we will be inviting. I do also like the idea of having the option between two books, I think that went over well last year. Maybe a classic or possibly a sci-fi thriller? Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteMmmm, I like that idea, Candice. I am personally feeling the need for some fiction as well! I suggest The Associate, by John Grisham. I think that would be a fun one for both ladies and gents and it's out in paperback now. http://www.jgrisham.com/the-associate/
ReplyDeleteAnother suggestion: The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold
Another suggestion that Kelsey and I were thinking is a possible: Another Agatha Christie. I can ask my Dad for his next couple favorites if you want! :)
Anyway, so that's what I got so far... will post more if I get any more suggestions!!

I haven't read one of his books before but am interested in the author George Pelecanos who writes crime fiction set in the DC area. "The Turnaround" is based on actual events, but reads like a crime/mystery novel. Maybe a good one if we are inviting guys? Check it out- http://www.hachettebookgroup.com/features/georgepelecanos/turnaround/
ReplyDeleteBri, this looks great!
ReplyDeleteI vote for The Turnaround, especially if we are doing bring-a-friend. If we are not doing bring a friend, I think we should read The Secret River. Yay!
